Clothing — Delasco

From the Editor…

On January 26, 2017, Jan T (Ringwood, NJ), posted a message to members of the PRP Facebook Support Group regarding clothing.  The feedback she received is well worth including in the PRP Survival Guide.

I have attended three annual meetings of the American Academy of Dermatology (Denver, San Francisco and Orlando). Delasco always has a both with an array of products sold to dermatologists for clinic use. Familiarity with Delasco may be one reason why Jan’s dermatologist recommended she visit the Delasco website.

My consulting dermatologist had me order a sauna suit from the Delasco website and I had a very nice experience with them. Someone called me after I ordered to tell me there was a less expensive shipping option and that they might be able to take back an unreturnable item under certain circumstances. I just went back to the site to see if they might have disposable booties, since the latex-free gloves that I get from CVS are so useful. They do. Also a lotion applicator with a handle to reach the itchy places on the back!! I’m sure there are other places to get these, but here are the links. It is a US company.

What does a sleep sauna suit do?

It’s for psoriasis and dry skin conditions. One of my dermatologists wanted me to get it for my erythroderma. [Ed: Erythroderma is the term used to describe intense and usually widespread reddening of the skin due to inflammatory skin disease. It often precedes or is associated with exfoliation (skin peeling off in scales or layers)]Not sure if it was really worth the money, and it works better with creams than the oily ointments that work best, but it’s supposed to hold the topical lotion near your skin all night and all day if you wear it during the day. It also helps hold in your body heat, which was helpful in December. It’s soft and silky fabric and doesn’t catch the “lint” as badly as other garments. It’s not terribly attractive — more like a space suit. Now I tend to use it over sweats as an added protection against the goop.

Sauna Suit is 100% Nylon. The garment is not meant to be worn over your clothing. Take your bath, or shower, towel dry, apply a good body cream, put the Sauna Suit on (no clothing beneath it). Now put your regular clothing on over the Sauna Suit. The rationale for the Sauna Suit is, it keeps moisture and heat next to your skin, keeping your skin more moist through out the day and night time hours. An added benefit for us is, it contains that loose skin. The suit is very durable, very comfortable. It launders nicely. I had two of them. I wore one day and night for almost four years. Wearing the Sauna Suit over clothing defeats the purpose

I’m glad you had such success. I wore it as directed during the day and at night for a while, but found it didn’t work well with the oily ointments. Mine was just a bit too snug around the neck at first, but I liked the silky feel. Now I just wear it over clothes for protection of furniture. You’ve inspired me to try it as designed again. Especially since I’ve now been prescribed a cream again!

I found the neck too snug too in the first suit. I ordered a size larger. that worked well for me. My doctor wrote the script for it, so my insurance paid for it.

What has been your experience with Sleep Sauna Suits and/or Delasco?
